Founded by Medical Director Dr. David Allen, the Renascence Institute International, located in Nassau, Bahamas is a comprehensive behavioural healthcare clinic that provides outpatient medical evaluations, individual psychotherapy, process group therapy and intensive services.
Our treatment programs are diverse and deal with such issues as depression, eating disorders, anger management, relationships, alcohol/substance abuse, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder and more.
Derived from a poem by Edna St. Vincent Millay, the title Renascence means renewal, new birth or as one client described it "blossoming forth!" In the poem, although surrounded by the most-breath taking scenery of mountains, woods and a bay, the poet, oppressed by the weight of her personal pain and the suffering of the world, is unable to appreciate the beauty around her. Experiencing a living death, she slowly sinks in the earth.
As rain falls and waters the earth, she longs for the healing forces of nature. In desperation she cries,"O God…give me new birth…set me free, washing my grave away from me!"
In a way unknown to her, the poet experiences renewal and as her senses awake to the smells, sounds and sights around her, she cries,
Ah! Up then from the ground sprang I And hailed the earth with such a cry As is not heard save from a man Who has been dead and lives again.Based on Judeo-Christian principles, the Renascence Institute International recognizes that all persons are created in the image of God and have inestimable value, dignity and human rights. Thus, we believe that in spite of the woundedness of life, the overriding presence of God's love empowers us to face our pain, work through our issues and reach out in compassion to our neighbor.

In essence our philosophy is stated succinctly in the words of T. S. Eliot: "We shall not cease from exploration and the end of all our exploring will be to arrive where we started and know the place for the first time."

In the early 1970s, with the availability of personal computers, work began on software to administer, score, and interpret Gough’s Adjective Check List (ACL). The ACL had already been in worldwide use for 25 years and found to be a valid and reliable psychometric test for personality assessment and description. BeMIS II brings the power of the ACL to professionals in a wide range of professions and services. The Adjective Check List is a normed, standardized personality measure that has been in use since its development in 1949. It provides a wealth of information that is not otherwise available.
